The moment I stepped into Luna Et Sol, I knew this was not going to be a regular dinner. The dimly lit interiors, the mysterious sounds playing around me and the castle-like setting instantly transported me into a world that felt strangely familiar almost as if Hogwarts had found its way into the heart of Mumbai. For someone who has grown up knowing the Harry Potter universe, it was the kind of setting where you don’t just notice the references; you instinctively look around to see what magical detail you might discover next.
Everything about the space plays into that feeling. From the floating candle-style chandeliers and house banners to the magical projections, dramatic ceiling effects and carefully placed props, the restaurant builds an atmosphere that feels theatrical without losing its identity as a dining space. I spotted familiar Harry Potter-inspired elements including Dobby, the Hogwarts Express and flying letters, each becoming its own little moment of discovery. The slightly dim lighting worked particularly well with the décor, giving the interiors the mysterious, old-world character of a castle dining hall.
What made the experience particularly enjoyable for me was that the theme didn’t stop at the interiors. The sound, lighting and visual effects kept changing the mood around the table. There was a sense of anticipation throughout the meal, almost like waiting to see what would happen next. It is this attention to atmosphere that makes the Harry Potter influence feel immersive rather than simply decorative.
The drinks were where the evening began to take another turn. We ordered two of the signature cocktails, Venus and Mercury, both of which were impressive. Luna Et Sol’s cocktail menu takes inspiration from the planets, and the celestial concept fits naturally into the restaurant’s larger world of fantasy and imagination. The cocktails were well-executed, flavourful and came with the kind of presentation that makes you pause before taking the first sip.
For food, we started with the Mushroom Lasagna, which was rich, comforting and packed with earthy mushroom flavour. We also tried the Wild Mushrooms & Gruyère, bringing together mixed mushrooms, caramelized onion and truffle oil. The combination was indulgent without feeling overwhelming, with the caramelized onion adding sweetness and the truffle oil bringing in that deeper, aromatic finish. Both dishes worked particularly well with the European character of the menu.
The culinary direction at Luna Et Sol draws from French techniques, Swiss Alpine cooking and Italian simplicity, and that influence comes through in the food. There is a certain warmth and richness to the dishes that complements the castle-like surroundings rather beautifully.
And then came dessert, which was a fitting way to close the experience. After an evening of dark interiors, magical projections, theatrical sounds, cocktails and comforting European flavours, dessert brought the meal to a pleasantly indulgent end.
What I enjoyed most about Luna Et Sol was that the Harry Potter theme never felt like something added simply for photographs. It found its way into the mood of the evening from the moment I walked in, to the cocktails named after planets, to the food and the changing atmosphere around us. As someone who knows and appreciates the Harry Potter world, I found myself noticing the little details and enjoying the experience more with every course.
By the time I walked out, it genuinely felt like I had spent the evening somewhere outside the usual Mumbai dining circuit. Luna Et Sol doesn’t just serve you dinner; it builds a little world around it and for a few hours, letting yourself get lost in that world is perhaps the best part of the meal.
