Rashmika Mandanna’s recent Telugu drama The Girlfriend is now gearing up for its streaming debut after earning praise from audiences during its theatrical run. Netflix India has officially announced that the film will begin streaming on the platform from December 5, and will be available in five languages, expanding its reach to a wider audience.
Directed by actor-turned-filmmaker Rahul Ravindran, the film delves into complex themes of manipulation, emotional trauma, and the journey toward reclaiming one’s identity. Produced by Dheeraj Mogilneni and Vidya Koppineni, with music by Hesham Abdul Wahab, the project is presented by Allu Aravind’s Geetha Arts, known for backing impactful Telugu cinema.
The Girlfriend features Rashmika Mandanna as Bhooma Devi, a postgraduate student who becomes entangled in a psychologically abusive relationship with Vikram, played by Dheekshith. What begins as a seemingly charming romance soon unravels as Bhooma confronts the harsh reality of gaslighting and emotional control, pushing her to fight for her freedom and self-worth. Actor Rao Ramesh also appears in a pivotal supporting role.
With its OTT release on Netflix, the film is expected to find a new wave of viewership, especially among audiences drawn to intense, character-driven stories.
