The cast and makers of the upcoming Punjabi film Ishqnama came together for a grand press conference at Hotel The Lalit, New Delhi, offering the media an exclusive glimpse into the film’s emotionally charged narrative ahead of its theatrical release on July 24, 2026.
Inspired by a true story, Ishqnama is set against the backdrop of the India-Pakistan border between 1981 and 1988. The film follows the poignant love story of Nimma, a Sikh poet from Indian Punjab, and Naseema, a Muslim woman from Pakistani Punjab, whose relationship is shaped and ultimately separated by the lasting scars of Partition and political borders.
Lead actors Jai Randhawa and Shehnaaz Gill were present at the event alongside Saurabh Sachdeva and Anjum Batra, where they spoke about the film’s emotional themes and the responsibility of bringing a true story to the big screen.
Speaking at the event, Jai Randhawa said, “Ishqnama is a story of true love, and I hope it creates history. We are releasing it in Punjabi first, and if audiences embrace it, we would love to bring it to viewers in other languages as well.”
Reflecting on the film’s roots, he added, “There could not have been a better place than Punjab for Ishqnama. This land has shaped me and given me my identity. The love I have received here over the years is beyond words. Having artists like Shehnaaz and Arvind in this film makes it even more special.”
Shehnaaz Gill described Ishqnama as more than a conventional romance, calling it a story of emotions that transcend borders and divisions.
During the media interaction, the cast discussed the emotional depth of the narrative, the significance of portraying a real-life-inspired story with authenticity, and the film’s central message of love enduring beyond geographical and political boundaries.
Ishqnama is scheduled to release in cinemas on July 24, 2026.
