Aamir Khan Productions has officially announced the theatrical release date of its much-awaited period drama Lahore 1947. The Sunny Deol starrer is set to arrive in cinemas on August 13, 2026, perfectly timed with the Independence Day week.
Mounted on a grand scale, the film features a stellar ensemble cast including Shabana Azmi, Preity Zinta, and Karan Deol alongside Sunny Deol. Adding further weight to the project, the music is composed by AR Rahman with lyrics by the legendary Javed Akhtar, raising expectations for a powerful soundtrack to complement the historical narrative.
While details about the storyline are being kept under wraps, Lahore 1947 is positioned as an emotionally charged period drama, and its release during Independence week hints at a theme rooted in history and national sentiment.
The announcement comes after Aamir Khan’s recent production Sitaare Zameen Par, which hit theatres on June 20, 2025, in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu. The film, inspired by the Spanish movie Champions, tells the story of a sports coach who rediscovers purpose and compassion through his bond with children who experience the world differently. After its theatrical run, the film later premiered on YouTube and was widely appreciated for its heartfelt storytelling and inclusive message.
