In anticipation of the massive travel surge during Chhath Puja 2025, Indian Railways has launched one of its largest festive operations to date deploying over 1,500 special trains across the country to ensure smooth and comfortable journeys for passengers returning home for the celebrations.
According to Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, an additional 1,205 special trains will operate over the next four days, supplementing the existing schedule of regular services. On average, around 300 special trains are being run each day to accommodate the festive rush. Over the past three weeks alone, the network has seen 4,493 special train trips, averaging more than 200 trips daily.
To further streamline passenger movement, mini control rooms have been established at major railway stations across India. These hubs allow real-time coordination and monitoring of train operations, ensuring quick response to any on-ground challenges. A new permanent holding area at New Delhi Railway Station has also been introduced, offering space for over 7,000 passengers, equipped with 150 toilets each for men and women, ticket counters, automatic ticket vending machines, and free RO water a move aimed at improving both comfort and crowd management.
With approximately 10,700 reserved and 3,000 unreserved trains now running to handle the holiday demand, Indian Railways’ efforts underscore its focus on passenger safety and convenience during one of India’s busiest travel periods.
With enhanced coordination, upgraded facilities, and thousands of special services in motion, Indian Railways aims to make Chhath Puja 2025 travel smoother, safer, and more reliable for millions of passengers nationwide.
