Travel across five Indian states is about to become more seamless and affordable, as Gujarat’s first Amrit Bharat Express begins its commercial operations on Sunday, October 5. Flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 27, this new-generation long-distance train service will link Udhna (near Surat) in Gujarat to Brahmapur in Odisha, covering a vast distance of 1,708 km.

Designed to provide safe, economical, and comfortable travel, the Amrit Bharat Express offers a crucial transport link between western and eastern India, passing through 22 districts across Gujarat, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, and Odisha.

The train’s journey will span approximately 33 hours, halting at major cities and towns including Raipur, Nagpur, Bhusaval, Vizianagaram, Rayagada, and Titlagarh, among others.

On its Brahmapur-Udhna route, the train will make important stops at Palasa, Vizianagaram, Rayagada, Titlagarh, Raipur, Nagpur, Bhusaval, and Nandurbar, with additional halts at key junctions such as Srikakulam, Bobbili, Parvatipuram, Durg, Wardha, Akola, Jalgaon, and Vyara.

This route is poised to improve accessibility across industrial towns, cultural hubs, and rural regions making it a valuable addition for both long-distance travelers and locals commuting between regions.

The Amrit Bharat Express will run with 22 coaches, including:

  • 11 General Second Class coaches
  • 8 Sleeper Class coaches
  • 2 Second Class-cum-Luggage Vans
  • 1 Pantry Car

Fares have been kept budget-friendly, with General class tickets priced at ₹495 and Sleeper class tickets at ₹795. This makes the train a highly affordable option for people traveling long distances without compromising on basic comfort.

Weekly Schedule

  • Udhna to Brahmapur (Train No. 19021): Departs every Sunday at 07:10 AM, arrives Monday at 1:55 PM
  • Brahmapur to Udhna (Train No. 19022): Departs every Monday at 11:45 PM, arrives Wednesday at 8:45 AM

A Boost to Cross-Country Travel

Part of Indian Railways’ larger vision to modernize long-haul train travel, the Amrit Bharat Express is designed with enhanced seating, better ventilation, and safety features offering a more reliable and pleasant journey for passengers.

By connecting the western hub of Gujarat to the eastern coastline of Odisha, this service not only strengthens inter-state connectivity but also boosts tourism, trade, and mobility across regions that are often underserved by direct train routes.
