Akasa Air Sets New Standard for Pet Travel in India with Game-Changing Enhancements Akasa Air Sets New Standard for Pet Travel in India with Game-Changing Enhancements

Akasa Air has taken a bold step in transforming pet travel in India by introducing a range of upgrades that place comfort, convenience, and care at the heart of the passenger experience. With pet ownership on the rise and growing demand from travelers seeking more inclusive services, Akasa’s revamped “Pets on Akasa” program is setting a new benchmark in the domestic aviation sector.

The airline now allows passengers to bring up to two pets into the cabin, ensuring a smoother and more accommodating journey for both the animals and their owners. Since the service was launched in late 2022, Akasa Air has transported more than 8,500 pets, a figure that highlights the popularity and success of the initiative. The service is currently available on flights across 24 cities in India, including key routes such as Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, and Lucknow, enabling pet owners to travel more freely without compromising their companions’ well-being.

One of the most notable enhancements to the service is the introduction of priority check-in and boarding for passengers traveling with pets, significantly reducing wait times and stress during departure. Passengers are also allocated exclusive pre-booked window seats, which provide additional space and comfort for pets to remain calm throughout the flight. In addition, pet owners benefit from priority baggage delivery, creating a seamless travel experience from check-in to arrival.

Recognizing the need for greater flexibility, Akasa Air has also reduced the minimum advance booking window for pet travel. Previously, passengers were required to book at least 48 hours before departure; now, pets can be added to a reservation just 24 hours in advance. This move caters to spontaneous travelers who may need to make last-minute plans without leaving their pets behind.

Further reinforcing its commitment to animal welfare, Akasa Air has partnered with the Umeed for Animals Foundation, a respected nonprofit that works on the rehabilitation and rescue of animals. Through this partnership, Akasa ensures that its pet travel services align with the highest standards of care, guided by experts in animal behavior and transportation safety.

The enhancements come at a time when Akasa Air is expanding rapidly, with a current fleet of 30 Boeing 737 Max aircraft and over 200 more on order. This growth will enable the airline to scale up its services, including pet travel, to more destinations across the country.

Akasa Air’s approach reflects a growing shift in the airline industry toward more inclusive travel experiences that prioritize both passengers and their pets. By integrating customer feedback and anticipating evolving needs, the airline is positioning itself as a leader in customer-first innovation. Its expanded pet travel service not only simplifies the logistics of flying with pets but also introduces a new level of compassion and care in Indian aviation.

As the demand for pet-friendly travel increases, Akasa’s initiatives are likely to influence broader industry trends, encouraging other carriers to reevaluate their policies. With this initiative, Akasa Air has firmly established itself as a pioneer in transforming pet travel into a more humane, accessible, and stress-free experience for Indian flyers.
