In a major milestone for Indian cinema on the global stage, Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh has landed a nomination at the 2025 International Emmy Awards for Best Performance by an Actor, thanks to his gripping portrayal in Netflix’s ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’.
Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Imtiaz Ali, Amar Singh Chamkila dives deep into the life of the iconic and controversial Punjabi folk singer of the same name. Set against the politically charged backdrop of 1980s Punjab, the film explores Chamkila’s meteoric rise to fame through bold, unfiltered music and the tragic end that came when he and his wife, fellow singer Amarjot Kaur, were assassinated in 1988.
Dosanjh’s performance has drawn widespread acclaim for its authenticity and emotional intensity. His transformation into Chamkila capturing the artist’s raw charisma and inner turmoil has resonated powerfully with both critics and audiences alike. Sharing the screen with Parineeti Chopra, who delivers a heartfelt portrayal of Amarjot, the duo breathes new life into one of Punjab’s most haunting cultural stories.
The International Emmy nod puts Dosanjh in esteemed company. His fellow nominees in the Best Actor category include:
- David Mitchell for Ludwig
- Oriol Pla for Yo, Adicto (I, Addict)
- Diego Vasquez for One Hundred Years of Solitude
India’s footprint at the International Emmys continues to expand. Following the historic win of Delhi Crime in 2020 and Vir Das clinching an Emmy in 2021 for Vir Das: For India, Dosanjh’s nomination underscores the rising global recognition of Indian talent and storytelling.
