Traveling from Mumbai to the scenic Konkan coast is about to become faster, smoother, and significantly more convenient. Starting September 1, a new Roll-On, Roll-Off (Ro-Ro) ferry service will connect Mumbai with key Konkan destinations offering an alternative to the often-congested Mumbai-Goa highway and slashing travel time by more than half.

The ferry, which follows the success of the Mumbai–Alibaug Ro-Ro route, is expected to redefine how people experience coastal Maharashtra. What typically takes 10–12 hours by road will now take just five hours aboard the ferry, transforming the journey into a relaxing cruise instead of a tiresome drive. In fact, travel time from Mumbai to Ratnagiri will be reduced to a mere three hours, while Mumbai to Vijaydurg (Sindhudurg) will now take five hours making weekend getaways and holiday visits more accessible than ever before.

The launch is perfectly timed ahead of the festive season when traffic along the Mumbai–Konkan route peaks. Festivals like Ganeshotsav see thousands heading to their hometowns in Konkan, often causing severe congestion along the highway. The new Ro-Ro ferry promises to ease this annual travel crunch, offering a comfortable and time-efficient alternative that combines both transport and leisure.

This long-anticipated service has its roots in the vision of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who first laid the groundwork for maritime connectivity between Mumbai and Konkan during his earlier tenure. Now, with the project set to take off under his current administration, the plan is finally becoming a reality one that many commuters, travelers, and holidaymakers are eager to embrace.

From Rs 2,500 for economy class to Rs 9,000 for first class, the service provides options for both budget travelers and those looking for a more luxurious ride. Additionally, vehicles can be ferried along, with car fares set at Rs 6,000, and two-wheelers and bicycles priced at Rs 1,000 and Rs 600, respectively.
