Travelling by Delhi Metro has become more expensive as the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) implemented a fare hike on Monday, marking its first revision in eight years.
The new fare structure has increased ticket prices by up to ₹4, depending on travel distance. For short distances up to 2 km, fares have risen from ₹10 to ₹11. Journeys between 2 km to 5 km now cost ₹21, up from ₹20, and fares for 5 km to 12 km have increased from ₹30 to ₹32. Travellers covering distances between 12 km and 21 km will now pay ₹43, up from ₹40.
The hike also applies to Sundays and national holidays, with travel up to 5 km now costing ₹11 instead of ₹10.
On the Airport Express Line, fares have increased by ₹1 to ₹5. The longest route on this line, from New Delhi to Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector-25, now costs ₹75.
DMRC stated the fare revision is necessary to meet rising operational costs. However, many commuters expressed disappointment over the sudden change, saying it was made without prior notice.
