In a move to enhance food safety and empower consumers, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has directed all Food Business Operators (FBOs)—including restaurants, dhabas, cafes, and other eateries—to prominently display their FSSAI License or Registration certificate along with a QR code linked to the ‘Food Safety Connect’ app.
This QR code must be visible to customers in key areas such as entrances, billing counters, or seating zones. The initiative aims to provide diners with a quick and easy way to access food safety information, report hygiene concerns, and lodge complaints directly via the mobile app.
To facilitate this, the QR code has now been integrated into the front page of the FSSAI License and Registration certificate. FBOs have also been advised to include this QR code or a direct app download link on their websites and online ordering platforms.
The ‘Food Safety Connect’ app, developed by FSSAI, offers consumers a platform to:
- Register complaints related to food safety and hygiene.
- Report misleading product claims.
- Access information about licensed food businesses.
- Stay updated on FSSAI alerts and safety initiatives.
All complaints submitted through the app are automatically routed to the appropriate local authority, ensuring faster resolution.
This directive aligns with Condition No. 1 of the FSS (Licensing and Registration of Food Businesses) Regulations, 2011, and is part of FSSAI’s broader mission to cultivate a culture of safe and healthy eating across the country.
