With the Amarnath Yatra 2025 set to begin on July 3, the administration has rolled out strict new guidelines to ensure the safety of pilgrims, especially in the wake of recent security concerns in Pahalgam.
This year, solo travel has been completely banned. All pilgrims must move exclusively in government-organised security convoys, according to the traffic advisory issued by IGP BS Tootti. These convoys will travel along the secured stretch of National Highway 44, from Lakhanpur to Jammu, which will be monitored with enhanced CCTV surveillance.
To improve safety and coordination, every pilgrim will receive an RFID tracking card at reception centers. All vehicles will also be monitored by Road Opening Parties throughout the Yatra route. These steps are designed to help authorities track movement, manage crowds, and respond quickly in case of emergencies.
The administration has also enhanced infrastructure along the route. Over 100 shelter centres have been set up to accommodate nearly 50,000 people, along with arrangements for food, medical care, and sanitation.
Offline registration has begun at the Bhagwatinagar base camp, where pilgrims can also undergo the mandatory medical check-up and collect RFID cards. Additionally, rail travel for the Yatra has been prohibited this year, and only the designated road convoys will be allowed.
The Yatra will be formally inaugurated on July 2 by the Lieutenant Governor, and pilgrims will have the option of choosing from three different types of darshan. Registration continues online and through approved banks.
With an expected footfall of over 5 lakh pilgrims, the administration is prioritising tight security, smooth logistics, and enhanced facilities to ensure a safe and spiritually fulfilling pilgrimage.
