Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, the eternal empress of the Cannes red carpet, has made a breathtaking return at the 78th Cannes Film Festival and this time the actress wore Indian handloom.

Aishwarya turned heads in an opulent Kadwa Ivory Banarasi handloom saree by Manish Malhotra, marking a moment that is equal parts homage and high fashion. The ivory saree, woven with rose gold and silver threads, is a celebration of the traditional Kadwa brocade technique from Varanasi ,a meticulous process where each motif is individually woven with multiple shuttles and supplementary threads, a true testament to the prowess of Indian artisans.

Accentuating the saree’s rich texture are hand-embroidered zari details in real silver (chandi), lending an ethereal sheen to the ensemble. A sheer white tissue handwoven dupatta, finished with zardozi embroidery in real gold and silver, floated alongside, a finishing touch that underscored the ensemble’s ceremonial grandeur.

Styled with over 500 carats of heirloom Mozambique rubies and uncut diamonds set in 18k gold from Manish Malhotra Jewellery, Aishwarya’s look wasn’t just fashion — it was a statement. Bold ruby rings and Renaissance-inspired designs amplified the power of her presence, turning the red carpet into a runway of cultural pride and contemporary couture.
On the professional front, Aishwarya was last seen in Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan: II.
