After a five-year suspension due to the COVID-19 pandemic and geopolitical challenges, the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is set to resume from June 30, 2025. The revered pilgrimage will once again be accessible through the Lipulekh Pass in Uttarakhand’s Pithoragarh district, marking a significant moment for spiritual seekers across India and abroad.
This year, 250 pilgrims will be allowed to participate, organized into five batches of 50 individuals each. A major highlight of the 2025 yatra is the newly accessible motorable route from Tawaghat to Lipulekh, made possible by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) with the completion of the strategic road in 2022. The development has vastly improved the safety and ease of the journey, allowing participants to cover the most challenging stretch by vehicle for the first time.

The 22-day journey will commence in Delhi and pass through Tanakpur, Dharchula, and Gunji. Pilgrims will acclimatize for two days in Gunji before crossing into China on July 10. The return leg is expected to conclude by August 22, with stops at scenic locations like Almora, Chaukori, and Bundi for rest.
The Ministry of External Affairs, in coordination with the Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam (KMVN), will oversee arrangements on the Indian side. While the cost of the pilgrimage is yet to be finalized, applications are anticipated to open within the next few weeks. Interested individuals are encouraged to stay updated through official announcements.
