The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has introduced a new and much-needed service for weary commuters: a pod hotel located inside the New Delhi Metro Station. Positioned at the busy interchange of the Yellow Line and the Airport Express Line, this compact, cozy retreat provides transit passengers with a chance to rest and recharge before continuing their journey in the bustling city.
The pod hotel spans 3,000 square meters and includes both small sleeping pods and commercial rooms. Designed for passengers with lengthy layovers or those seeking a quick break, the facility offers a cost-effective alternative to traditional lodging. The concept follows the global trend of capsule hotels in key transportation hubs, providing a practical solution for travelers looking to unwind. 
A DMRC official said, “At New Delhi metro station, which serves as an interchange for the Yellow and Airport Express Lines, the vendor has developed a pod hotel for passengers seeking overnight accommodation. The pod hotel is now operational. A portion of the 3,000 square meters is dedicated to the hotel, with the remainder used for other commercial purposes.”
In addition to the pod hotel, DMRC has been working on increasing non-fare revenue through several commercial developments. Retail, food, and office spaces have been added at metro stations such as Punjabi Bagh, Malviya Nagar, Azadpur, and Faridabad Sector 20B. Furthermore, a banquet hall has been established at the Noida Electronic City Metro Station, enhancing the versatility of metro premises beyond simple transit services.
The introduction of the pod hotel at New Delhi Metro Station is set to transform it from a transit hub into a more comfortable and convenient space, allowing passengers to take a restful break before continuing their journey.
