Salman Khan’s much-anticipated mass actioner, Sikandar, is all set for a rare Sunday release on March 30, 2025. Breaking away from the typical Friday film release tradition, Sikandar will hit screens on a Sunday, marking a significant departure from the norm. Directed by AR Murugadoss, the film also stars Rashmika Mandanna and Kajal Aggarwal.
While the makers had earlier confirmed that the film would arrive during Eid, the March 30 date aligns with a Sunday release. This isn’t the first time Salman Khan has opted for an unconventional release strategy. His 2023 blockbuster Tiger 3, also directed by Maneesh Sharma, broke the Friday trend by releasing on a Sunday, coinciding with Diwali. Despite the concerns of trade experts who felt the Sunday release may have missed the opportunity to capitalize on the weekend before the festival, Tiger 3 went on to earn over Rs 280 crore at the box office.

Addressing the decision for Sikandar, Rohan Malhotra, VP of Distribution for Yash Raj Films, said, “I always believe that it is absolutely fine to do the conventional, and there is no need to reinvent if there is no need for it. In this case, however, what came to our mind was that it is important for us not to look at the opening day numbers but to focus on what is eventually going to benefit the film. In the case of Tiger 3, we definitely felt that releasing on Laxmi Puja day, which is considered the weakest day to release a film, would be a better fit for our film.”
